Burns are injuries to the skin and underlying tissues caused by a variety of factors including heat, chemicals, electricity, radiation, and friction. The severity of a burn depends on the depth and extent of tissue damage. Burns can range from minor superficial injuries that only affect the outer layer of skin, to severe injuries that penetrate through all layers of the skin and may even damage muscle and bone.
